A new leadership team has emerged at the First Lagos Veterans Basketball Club (FLVBB) following the club’s recently concluded elections, ushering in a fresh chapter for one of Nigeria’s most respected veteran basketball organisations.
Retired military officer Ayo Odediran was elected President for the 2026–2028 tenure, with John Abosede named Vice President.
Other members of the newly elected executive include Philip Braide as Secretary General, Abiodun Siyanbade as Treasurer, Ayinla Johnson as Chief Whip, Uthman Okunnu as Social Secretary, and Aliyu Jibril as Team Captain.
The First Lagos Veterans Basketball Club remains a major force in veteran basketball in Nigeria.
Officially recognised by the Lagos State Sports Commission, the club operates from the iconic Rowe Park Sports Centre and represents Lagos at regional and international veteran basketball competitions.
Over the years, FLVBB has built a reputation not only for promoting competitive basketball among former players but also for preserving the rich history and culture of the game in Lagos.
The club continues to strengthen ties with sister veteran teams across Nigeria and beyond, including clubs in Ghana, Kwara, Abuja, Rivers and Oyo State.
One of the club’s hallmark events is its annual Independence Day Veteran Basketball Competition, which regularly attracts teams from across Nigeria and neighboring countries.
The tournament has grown in stature in recent years, even welcoming participation from a team representing the Philippines.
Beyond basketball, FLVBB has remained active in community development through charitable initiatives, including support for its host community and an annual wardrobe drive aimed at assisting indigent residents.
With a new executive committee now in place, expectations are high that the club will continue to expand its influence while maintaining its role as a custodian of basketball heritage in Lagos
