The Lagos State Government on Wednesday restated its commitment to scale up its response to maternal and perinatal death surveillance across health districts to reduce preventable deaths and improve outcomes for mothers and newborns.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ retreat on the Maternal Health Systems Strengthening Initiative for Lagos State, held at the Sojourner Hotel, Ikeja, the Permanent Secretary, Health Districts III, Dr. Mosurat Adeleke noted that.
Lagos is reinforcing proper data collection and rapid reporting at all Primary Healthcare Centres to ensure every case is tracked, analysed, and acted upon without delay.
According to her, the creation of Health Districts by the Government was targeted towards bringing the health system closer to the citizenry and to improve residents’ health rates across the metropolis.
She said it is now mandatory for Officers in Charge (OICs) of all facilities across District III to submit data weekly, stressing that the data submission helps to close gaps in real-time reporting, strengthen feedback loops and translate insights into action.
Dr. Adeleke stressed that by improving accountability and response time, the Government aims to ensure that every mother and newborn in the state receives timely and quality care from antenatal visits through delivery and postnatal follow-up.
