The Adetunji and Falade ruling houses in Iroko, Akinyele local government area of Ibadan, Oyo State, have accused the town’s kingmakers of misleading the public over the filling of the vacant Oniroko stool.

In a statement signed by their counsel, Barrister Michael Lana, the ruling houses claimed that the kingmakers, led by Chief Jacob Adetunji, are in contempt of court.

The kingmakers had earlier called for the installation of Prince Obasola Adeyemi as the new Oniroko, but the ruling houses argue that this is premature given the ongoing court case (No: I/770/2025) over the Oniroko stool. The case involves claimants Taiwo Popoola, Okunola Falana, and Dr. John Adekunle Adedokun, and defendants Saka Fasanya, Oba Adewolu Rashidi Ladoja, Akinyele local government, and the Governor of Oyo State.

Barrister Lana questioned the authority of the kingmakers to forward Prince Adeyemi’s name for installation, noting that it is the turn of either the Falade or Adetunji ruling houses to produce a candidate for the vacant stool. He warned that the kingmakers’ actions amount to “brigandage” and urged them not to involve Governor Seyi Makinde and Olubadan Oba Rasidi Ladoja in their “illegality”.

The Opeola family, to which Prince Adeyemi belongs, has filed a defence in the court case, and Barrister Lana urged the kingmakers to respect the judicial process.
