Team Imo on Wednesday trashed the host Team Abia in a landslide 177 runs at the ongoing Chuma Anosike South East Cricket Tournament in Umuahia, Abia State.
Team Imo batted first and scored 212 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 15 overs.
Happy Nashua scored 51 runs off 25 balls,Nnemeka Onwuwaliri scored 44 runs off 21 balls, while Chukwuma Kingsley 35 runs off 20 balls.
Team Abia’s Onuegbu Enyinnaya took 3 wickets in 3 overs and conceded 45 runs, Jessie Obiegbulam took 1 wicket in 1 over and conceded 15 runs while Nnaobike Ikenna caught a wicket in 3 overs and conceded 32 runs.
In the second innings, Team Abia scored 35 runs all out in 6.1 over which has no answer to Team Imo”s massive 212 runs.
All effort of Team Abia captain, Jessie Obiegbulam’s 8 runs off 5 balls and Anunobi Ugochukwu’s 7 runs off 9 balls were nothing to write about.
Team Imo captain, Michael Mba described their landslide victory against Abia State in an interview with our correspondent as a result of a good batting other and excellent partnership.
“Our victory against Abia was fantastic, we have a good batting other meaning good partnership which is why we reached 212 runs. We have a good team work, we talked about our failure when we filed out against Enugu and Anambra which we had a meeting on and we put on a fight against. This helped our team to have a massive win against Imo
“I can tell you vividly that our good bowlers were able to checked Abia and increase our confident on the pitch, our understanding speak volume in today’s (Wednesday) encounter which simply means the more a team plays, the more it gets positive results”.
Meanwhile, Team Abia captain, Jessie Obiegbulam said that Team Imo bats men did justice to their bowlers, adding that they try their best but their best was not enough.
” Not that we did not listen to the coach instructions but we did not play enough to make us triumph against our opponent ‘
In other match of the Team Enugu defeated Team Ebonyi by 4 wickets.
In women’s category Ebonyi thrashed Enugu by 9 wickets while Anambra whitewashed Abia by 57 runs.
