Atlético Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, marking the beginning of a new challenge for the Nigerian International, Bold Sports reports.
The Spanish club announced on Monday evening that an agreement has been reached and the 28-year-old has signed a long-term contract until June 30, 2030.
Atletico Madrid also confirmed that Lookman completed his medical at the Vithas–Invictum High-Performance Sports Medicine Center in Madrid before heading to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano to finalise the move. He was welcomed by Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil, with the official signing completed at the club’s office.
Lookman joins Atlético after a standout spell in Italy with Atalanta, where he played a major role in the club’s historic 2023-24 UEFA Europa League triumph. The winger scored a famous hat-trick in the final as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0, sealing the club’s first-ever continental title and handing the German side their only defeat of the season.
The Nigerian International made 137 appearances for Atalanta, scoring 55 goals and providing 27 assists, establishing himself as one of the most clinical forwards in European football. He has also become a key figure for Nigeria since making his debut in March 2022, going on to record 41 caps and 11 goals for the Super Eagles.
